Do you <3 color? Is color an integral part of your day? Is your mood reflected in the colors you’re drawn to at any particular moment? Can a group of colors have an impact on your mood? Are you a color lover? I am betting that you are. Just as many of us are passionate about music, texture, tastes and words, so are we passionate about color. So on that note, I want to introduce you to a supercool Web site, called COLOURlovers!
There is so much to see and enjoy and take in on COLOURlovers that I’m going to be spot-lighting different things about the site in upcoming posts here, but I couldn’t wait to show you how quickly I was inspired myself by the beautiful (and ginormous selection of!) color palettes offered there.
I was perusing the palettes under the most loved category when I was lovestruck by Color Lover Miaka’s Curiosity Killed palette.
Right then and there I knew I wanted to create a painted canvas with those colors and then make something from the canvas. I write a lot of letters by hand and it’s something I often do when I travel—particularly sitting at the airport—so for a good while now, I’ve been wishing I had a nifty pencil case to take along my favorite doodling/writing pens and pencils. So I set out to make a pencil case and I’m pretty happy with how it came out.
While I was content merely collecting the right paint colors to match the palette and then winging it on canvas from there, I know sometimes I can see a group of colors that I like, but I’m not sure exactly what to do with them, or in what ratio to put them together. Well, on COLOURlovers, that’s where more fun comes in! If you click on a palette you like, you’ll find a “create pattern” button. From there you can try out different patterns using the colors in the palette. Cool! You can switch up the colors and create your own colors and patterns too.
Like you, I have my favorite colors of paint to work with, but I find it easy to get stuck in a rut, using the same combo of colors much of the time. The palettes on COLOURlovers really kicked me out of my rut and got me excited about exploring combinations I wouldn’t always come up with off the top of my head.
I can’t wait to see what combination I’ll use next. I promise to share though, and I also promise to tell you more about the incredible number of cool things going on over at COLOURlovers very soon, so stay tuned!
