My all-time favorite book ever, since its publication in 1974 ,when I bought the copy that’s sitting here on my desk today, is Native Funk & Flash by Alexandra Jacopetti Hart. Full of photographs of people in the midst of the exploration of creative expression of the late 60s and early 70s, this book has been a touchstone for me, proof that there’s a way to live and dress and decorate your space that doesn’t involve the mall or IKEA. Imagine my delight when I picked up a recent issue of Fiberarts magazine and read a letter from Alexandra. I sent her a note, we exchanged some email and shared some ideas, and here she is. Enjoy!
If you’d like to buy a signed copy of the book, go to my blog at Notes from the Voodoo Cafe and send me an email from there (there’s a button to click). I’ll put you in touch with Alexandra—this saves her having to wade through email from people who aren’t actually interested in ordering a copy.
